I built the guide I wish someone had handed me.
Nestora Gold started with a Master's in Gerontology, a stack of systematic reviews, and the realisation that almost none of that research ever reaches the family standing in the kitchen at midnight, unsure what to do next.
Hi, I'm the person behind Nestora Gold.
I hold a Master's degree in Gerontology. Nestora Gold is where that background finally gets to be useful to the people who need it most: the families doing the actual caring.
I started writing these guides after hearing the same story again and again from caregivers — not "I need more information," but "I needed to know what to do in that exact moment, and nobody told me." A relative who no longer recognised her own reflection. A father who, decades on, was still braced for the knock of soldiers at the door. These aren't footnotes in a textbook. They're Tuesday afternoons for real families.
So I started drawing on well-known approaches used in dementia care — ideas like multicomponent interventions, the Montessori approach to dementia care, Validation Therapy, Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care, and the wider thinking around behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) — and shaping them into guides built around those exact moments, not general topics. The approach first. Then the story. Then what to actually do.
Why "Nestora Gold"
A nest is one of the oldest images of care there is — built carefully, held together, meant to protect. "Gold" is what I hope each guide feels like handing someone: something small, dense with value, worth more than its size.
What's next
Nestora Gold is growing into a small library of content, and eventually a companion app for families coordinating care together. You can follow what's coming on the Coming Soon page.
